SIU Clears Brantford Police in Arrest of Knife-Wielding Man
Police responded to a call about a male brandishing a knife and threatening customers at a gas station.
The incident occurred at the Pioneer Gas station at Wayne Gretzky Parkway and Henry Street at about 7 a.m. on July 1.
- Officers arrived to find the suspect walking on a paved walkway, folding the knife and putting it in his pants pocket.
- The man refused to get on the ground when confronted by two officers, one with a conducted energy weapon and the other with a gun.
- A third officer arrived and used an ARWEN less-lethal projectile to subdue the man.
Officers handcuffed the man and removed the knife from his possession.
The province's Special Investigations Unit has cleared a Brantford Police officer of any wrongdoing in the arrest.
