Upper Holmesburg Civic Association Supports Local 22 Move
The Upper Holmesburg Civic Association (UHCA) has voted 25-4 in favor of a use variance request by IAFF Local 22, the union for Philadelphia firefighters and paramedics, to move to 9189-91 Torresdale Ave.
Local 22 has made a contingent purchase of the former Lincoln Technical Institute building, located on the southeast corner of Torresdale and Linden, which is currently zoned for industrial use.
- The site was previously occupied by Lincoln Tech, which has since moved to Bucks County.
- Local 22's current location at 415 N has a 10,000-square-foot building that is deemed too small, with a parking lot that has less than 30 spaces.
According to Mike Bresnan, the three-term president of the union, Local 22 plans to sell its current building.
A Zoning Board of Adjustment hearing is scheduled for January to discuss the use variance request.
