Researchers Identify 4 Antiviral Drug Candidates for COVID-19
A team of researchers screened over 250,000 drugs and natural compounds to find the ones that stop viral replication the most.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has only authorized three antivirals for treating COVID-19, and if the SARS-CoV-2 virus develops resistance to any of them, treatment options will be severely limited.
To find more treatment options, researchers conducted a large-scale screening of drugs and natural compounds, resulting in the identification of four potential candidates for COVID-19 treatment.
Already, the effectiveness of one of the drugs is in question, and another’s efficacy hasn’t yet been pinned down.
