Six Flags America in Bowie, Maryland has officially closed its doors for the last time.
The site, which opened in 1974 as a wildlife center, was sold, bought, and rebranded several times before Six Flags took over in 1999.
"I think they should keep it," park attendee Brian Fox said. "It definitely gives a lot of kids jobs, things to do during the summer. Next year, what are they gonna do?"
Prince George's County leaders noted that the park generates about $3 million in tax revenue a year, but believes it can do better than that.
The property site is now for sale, leaving hundreds of visitors to bid farewell to the amusement park, with some traveling from afar for a final photo op.
Author's summary: Six Flags America closes permanently.
