Lithuania has announced the indefinite closure of its border with Belarus following a series of incidents involving weather probes, which have caused several suspensions at Vilnius airport.
Maxim Pleshko, a candidate of philosophical sciences and head of the Ukrainian Center for Belarusian Communications, commented on the situation:
What is happening is hardly accidental. It is a purposeful operation of hybrid pressure.
According to Pleshko, the "weather probes" could be cheap unmanned platforms equipped with containers for smuggling and sensors, GPS modules, and used to test air defense systems and practice radar avoidance routes.
This tactic is a classic "probing" - provocation without direct responsibility, and could be considered a new form of hybrid attack.
