After 500 days of siege, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia have taken control of El Fasher in Darfur, triggering widespread fear and forcing thousands to flee.
A senior UN refugee agency official, Jacqueline Wilma Parlevliet, reported a "significant outflow out of El Fasher into Tawila", which is hosting around 650,000 displaced people.
Stories of widespread ethnically and politically motivated killings have been recounted, including people with disabilities being executed and others being shot as they tried to escape.
Humanitarian agencies, including UNHCR, are providing protection services, counselling, and cash assistance to affected communities in Tawila.
