June Lockhart, Beloved Mother Figure, Dies at 100

June Lockhart, the actress whose career spanned from Hollywood's Golden Age to television roles in "Lassie" and "Lost in Space," has died at 100 in Santa Monica.

Lockhart died of natural causes at her home, according to family spokesman Lyle Gregory. He said,

"She was very happy up until the very end, reading the New York Times and LA Times every day. It was very important to her to stay focused on the news of the day."

Lockhart was cast frequently in ingenue roles as a young film actor and is best known for her roles as a mother figure in "Lassie" and "Lost in Space". From 1958 to 1964, she portrayed Ruth Martin in the popular CBS series "Lassie", raising the orphaned Timmy (Jon Provost).
