A Sarnia man has been sentenced to 5 months in jail for his role in a lengthy police standoff.

The incident occurred on May 27 on Vidal Street South near Devine Street, where a 51-year-old homeowner, John Hawkins, confronted a man tampering with his ATV.

According to police, Hawkins grabbed a baseball bat for protection and ordered the man to leave, but the man initially ignored him and an argument ensued.

A second man, John Nahmabin, joined the verbal clash, circling the homeowner, who dropped the bat in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.

Nahmabin was recently sentenced to 150 days in jail for uttering a death threat during the altercation.

The standoff lasted for six hours and involved tactical police officers.
