Arbor’s ‘vegetarian rocket engine’ power plant is actually an omnivore | TechCrunch

Arbor Energy's Power Plant Evolution

Arbor Energy has modified its power plant to burn natural gas in addition to biomass, shifting from a "vegetarian rocket engine" to an omnivore.

Two years ago, former SpaceX engineers developed a power plant using rocket technology to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by burning plant waste.

This week, Arbor Energy announced a $55 million Series A funding led by Lowercarbon Capital and Voyager Ventures, following a partial pivot in its approach.

The shift to burning natural gas, in addition to biomass, was driven by the growing demand for electricity from data centers and the limited availability of wood and agricultural waste.

Its power plant, rather than sticking to a strict vegetarian diet, is going to be more of an omnivore, capable of burning natural gas in addition to biomass.

Author's summary: Arbor Energy's power plant now burns natural gas and biomass.
