New plans arise for the Greater Boise Auditorium District

New Plans for the Greater Boise Auditorium District

The Greater Boise Auditorium District recently met with the public to discuss future projects aimed at boosting the local economy without burdening taxpayers.

The district, which manages public auditoriums, convention centers, and sports arenas, funds its projects through a 5% room tax paid by travelers using hotels within its boundaries.

"We are not funded by property taxes, so unless you stay in a hotel you're not gonna be paying the hotel tax that helps fund us,"

said Kristin Muchow, Chair of the Greater Boise Auditorium District Board of Directors.

Johnson Consulting, which began a study in April, recommended an indoor multi-purpose sports complex and a dedicated civic performing arts center to benefit community and economic growth.

"Adding an exhibit hall in the 100,000 sq foot range would bring us into the size range of the Spokane convention center and make Boise much more competitive for these larger conventions."

said John Fleming of Johnson Consulting.
