Chicago Youth Explore Science with Space Explorers

Since 1991, the University of Chicago's Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics has connected Chicago Public Schools students with renowned astronomers and physicists.

The Space Explorers program, run by the institute, initially focused on introducing high school students to cosmology and its research. Over time, it has expanded to cover various areas of science, allowing students to explore different interests.

Students in the program participate in hands-on challenges, such as building model rockets, boats, and cars, and designing egg drops. These activities teach them open-ended problem-solving skills, as they refine their designs week after week.

The program's essence is about learning through experimentation and exploration.
