New York Confirms First Locally Acquired Chikungunya Cases in 6 Years
After conducting laboratory testing at the Wadsworth Center, New York health officials confirmed the first locally acquired chikungunya case in Nassau County on Long Island since 2019.
This is also the first locally acquired case to be reported in the United States since 2019, according to the New York State Department of Health.
"Our Wadsworth Center has confirmed this test result, which is the first known case of locally acquired Chikungunya in New York State. Given the much colder nighttime temperatures, the current risk in New York is very low." - James McDonald, New York State Health Commissioner
