Temple Emanuel, a synagogue on the north side of Pueblo, has stood for 125 years as a testament to the local Jewish community's resilience.
A Star of David in a stained glass window, surrounded by radiant beams of color, is the first thing visible upon entering the elegant red brick building.
The congregation believes strongly that the temple is not only the synagogue for the Jewish community, but it also belongs to the citizens of Pueblo.
The synagogue, known as the “Little Jewelbox,” continues to observe millennia-old Jewish holidays, including the recent celebration of Simchat Torah with songs and dance.
Each of the three Torahs at Temple Emanuel has a unique story, including the smallest one, covered in simple red velvet, which is about 300 years old and originated from Romania, according to temple board president Micheal Atlas-Acuña.
Author's summary: Temple Emanuel celebrates 125 years as a Jewish community hub.
