A medical helicopter was forced to land at a skate park in Paradise Valley on Tuesday morning.
At about 4 a.m., first responders were dispatched to Paradise Valley Park, near 40th Street and Bell Road, on reports of a medical helicopter in service that needed to land.
The Air Methods helicopter, CareFlight 3, had been transporting a patient from one hospital to another when it had a mechanical issue that forced it to land in a grass field, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.
Firefighters found the helicopter at the skate park and safely transported the patient to a nearby hospital.
All three crew members and the patient on board were unharmed, and the aircraft sustained no damage, according to Air Methods.
It is unknown what mechanical issues the helicopter had, but it was “deemed necessary to land away from the hospital,” said Phoenix Fire Capt.
