A man and his wife have been arrested in the German town of Kempten for allegedly stealing coins from parking meters, police reported. The suspect, who worked as a parking inspector, is accused of taking coins worth approximately €1 million.
Authorities say the theft operation involved the systematic collection of money from parking meters over an extended period.
“The investigation uncovered that the man took coins from meters he was supposed to monitor,” police explained.
His wife was also detained as part of the probe, though specific details of her involvement were not disclosed.
The incident drew attention due to the unusually large sum of stolen money, suggesting a long-running scheme.
This case reveals how someone in a position of trust exploited their role for personal gain, leading to a massive theft scheme in municipal parking operations.
