Rare Calico Lobster Makes Debut

A rare 1-in-20-million calico lobster, named Jackie, has made her debut at Northeastern University's Marine Science Center in Nahant, Massachusetts.

Jackie owes her unique colors to a mixture of chemical compounds. She is joining other Halloween-themed animals, such as spiders, bats, and fungi, as a natural Halloween ambassador.

Jackie is even more rare than the center's other recent star, Neptune the blue lobster, with odds of about one-in-20 million, compared to one-in-two million for a blue lobster.

Jackie was caught off the coast of Massachusetts by lobsterman Mike Tufts, who operates out of Gloucester. According to Sierra Munoz, Marine Science Center outreach coordinator, Jackie's unique colors make her a special addition to the center.
