The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has denied allegations that the conversion to prepaid smart meters is mandatory. The company emphasized that their recent tariff order only acknowledges the status of ongoing court cases related to smart meter installation.
"The tariff order merely references pending court proceedings; it does not impose forced conversion to prepaid meters," a UPPCL spokesperson clarified.
UPPCL highlighted that consumers will not be compelled to switch to prepaid meters without their consent. The company further stressed that the tariff structure outlined in the order remains unaffected by the smart meter references.
This clarification from UPPCL serves to correct misunderstandings about prepaid smart meter implementation and emphasizes respect for consumer choice and legal processes.
