Melbourne Victory suffered a close 1–0 defeat to Brisbane Roar in Round 6 of the Isuzu UTE A-League on Friday night.
The only goal of the match came in the first half when Henry Hore converted for the home side at Suncorp Stadium. Despite strong attacking spells from Victory, they were unable to find an equalizer. Bruno Fornaroli, who leads the league in goals this season, came close on several occasions but was denied by sharp goalkeeping and missed opportunities.
Victory maintained considerable possession throughout the match and created a handful of promising chances, particularly late in the second half. Midfielders Jake Brimmer and Ryan Teague controlled play, but the team lacked the finishing touch needed to secure points away from home.
Head coach Tony Popovic said after the match:
“We created enough to get something from the game, but we need to be more ruthless in front of goal.”
He added that the team would use the match as motivation to improve ahead of their next fixture.
Melbourne Victory will return home to face Western Sydney Wanderers next week as they aim to bounce back and strengthen their position in the league standings.
