Surveillance beefed up at India's key infrastructure sites
The government has decided to strengthen surveillance at all important infrastructure sites in the country, including airports, seaports, and railway stations, amid rising security threats.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the wake of a recent attack by a group of terrorists on an airbase in Pathankot in Punjab.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, among others.
According to official sources, the Centre has decided to beef up security at all critical infrastructure sites, including the country's borders, and asked states to ensure foolproof security arrangements at these places.
Also, the Centre has asked state governments to increase the deployment of security personnel, including the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), at these sites.
The Centre has also decided to increase vigilance at all international borders, sea ports and airports to prevent any possible breach by terrorists or anti-national elements.
Moreover, the Centre has asked states to improve the communication system, including the installation of CCTV cameras, to enhance surveillance at these sites.
