Ten years after their landmark provincial triumph, Clonmel Commercials’ hopes of progressing in the Munster Club Senior Football Championship ended in disappointment. They were defeated by St Finbarr’s in a tense quarter-final at Clonmel Sportsfield.
Final Score: St Finbarr’s 1-17, Clonmel Commercials 2-11.
The Tipperary champions played with energy and determination before a crowd of nearly 2,000, despite challenging weather following heavy rain. For much of the game, they appeared stronger but failed to convert sustained pressure into decisive scores.
St Finbarr’s made the most of their chances, holding their nerve in the closing minutes to secure a home semi-final against the Clare champions, Éire Óg of Ennis.
“The game slipped away from them as they lost out in a gripping encounter against St Finbarr's.”
At halftime, Commercials led narrowly by 1-9 to 1-8 and created several scoring opportunities early in the second half. However, a number of attempts missed their mark or were comfortably saved by Cork goalkeeper Darragh Newman. Despite dominating possession, their finishing struggled to match their effort, allowing St Finbarr’s to edge ahead late on.
Clonmel Commercials fought bravely but their missed chances and fading energy in the final minutes cost them victory against St Finbarr’s in this hard-fought Munster quarter-final.
