The Georgia Bulldogs football family came together this week as current players and legendary alumni joined forces to support former coach Mark Richt’s battle with Parkinson’s disease. The annual Dawg Bowl, a bowling fundraiser, was held on Wednesday to raise money for the Isakson Center for Neurological Disease Research.
Proceeds from the event will benefit research into Parkinson’s and Crohn’s diseases. Coach Mark Richt was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2021, and his organization uses the Dawg Bowl to raise both funds and awareness for the cause.
Former players expressed strong support for their coach. Richt said to DawgsHQ,
“Every one of the guys I asked said yes.”
He showed deep appreciation for the community’s turnout. Current head coach Kirby Smart also encouraged his players to join the event, fostering a connection between different generations of the program.
Notable attendees included former All-American David Pollack, whose presence emphasized the lasting brotherhood within the Bulldogs community. The event exemplified the program’s seamless continuity under various leaders, as Smart once coached under Richt in 2005 and has preserved many of his cultural foundations.
Former running back Tyson Browning highlighted the significance of these ties, recognizing the importance of involving older players.
