Manchester United’s young defender James Overy has received his first call-up to Australia’s senior national team. The 17-year-old right-back continues to impress as part of the Red Devils’ promising academy setup.
Overy began his football journey with Perth Glory, one of Australia’s top clubs, before moving to England in 2024. After a brief spell with Newton Abbot Spurs, he was signed by Manchester United the same year.
Since joining the Premier League club, Overy has quickly become known as one of the most promising full-backs at Carrington. This season, he has featured for both the U18 and U21 squads, showcasing consistent performances at both levels.
One source told the Daily Mail that the teenager has "one hell of a future ahead of him".
Australia head coach Tony Popovic included the young right-back in his 26-man squad for the November international break. Overy will have the chance to face Venezuela and Colombia in friendly matches in North America.
“The CommBank Socceroos squad for our November friendlies in North America is here,” the official Socceroos post announced.
James Overy’s rapid rise from Perth Glory to Manchester United has now earned him a senior Socceroos call-up, marking a new milestone in his developing career.
