SAN ANTONIO — On Halloween, Spurs forward Julian Champagnie swapped his jersey for a Scooby-Doo costume and made a surprise visit to Methodist Children’s Hospital. Accompanied by the Spurs' mascot, Coyote, Champagnie handed out candy, took photos, and spent time with young patients, spreading joy during the hospital’s festive celebration.
Each year, Methodist Children’s Hospital transforms with elaborate decorations and themed celebrations, where staff dress in costumes to match the occasion. The event includes reverse trick-or-treating, with hospital leadership visiting rooms to deliver treats.
This year's celebration was extra special with Champagnie’s visit alongside Emergency Services Facility Dogs—Lady, Fresca, and Chanel—who were dressed as a surgeon, a witch, and a spider.
“I didn’t make a wish, but it felt like one. It was inspirational to see the actual walking dream. I didn’t think I was this special, but he made me feel like I was,” said Jamal Magee, a patient.
“I appreciate the hospital for giving me this opportunity. For him to stop by and show some love meant so much to me. It’s hard to describe.”
Julian Champagnie's visit highlighted the importance of compassion and community support in enhancing the patients' holiday experience.
