Rick Stein at new 198-key InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach is a site to see

Rick Stein Opens at InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach

Travel Weekly had an early look at Rick Stein’s new coastal restaurant inside the soon-to-open 198-key InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach. The space captures a relaxed Mediterranean aesthetic with soft, sun-washed tones and open-air dining areas.

Dining Spaces and Design

The restaurant will seat 224 guests across three distinct zones: an open courtyard adjoining the reimagined main entrance, a balcony looking out to Arden Street, and a refined main dining room. Inside, floor-to-ceiling doors lead to the deck, blending indoor and outdoor dining. Highlights include a 10-seat chef’s table and two semi-private sections accommodating up to 12 guests each.

Adding to the atmosphere are two large art pieces depicting an arrow squid and a school of fish mounted above the dining space, reinforcing the ocean-inspired theme.

Sass’s Bar and Opening Details

Sass’s Bar, named after Stein’s wife Sarah—his longtime PR partner in Australia—occupies the space that was once a karaoke bar in the former Crowne Plaza building. The restaurant’s soft opening will host 80 invited guests before Stein’s anticipated arrival on December 20. More than 3,500 visitors accessed the booking site shortly after reservations became available.

Menu and Availability

Rick Stein at Coogee Beach will serve lunch and dinner Friday through Sunday, and dinner only Monday to Thursday, offering guests a menu inspired by the oceanfront location.

“Sydney’s Coogee Beach is the perfect location for our flagship Australian restaurant. It’s relaxed yet sophisticated, with that incredible connection to the ocean that has always inspired my cooking. For us, this feels like coming home.” — Rick Stein
