After the disappointment of losing the World Series in seven games to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Toronto Blue Jays face a critical offseason. One key move has already been made: pitcher Shane Bieber decided to exercise his $16 million option to stay with the team for the 2026 season. Acquired before the trade deadline from the Cleveland Guardians, Bieber's choice surprised many but solidified Toronto’s starting rotation.
The Blue Jays must also address contracts for other vital players, including their star shortstop Bo Bichette. Injured in early September, Bichette missed most of the stretch leading up to the World Series. Despite returning while not fully healed, he showed great determination on baseball’s biggest stage.
“He wants to remain with Toronto,” said sources close to Bichette after the World Series.
Bo Bichette is expected to sign a lucrative new contract soon. Mike Axisa of CBS Sports predicts that Bichette’s deal will include a position change for the upcoming season—though the exact details remain unconfirmed. Axisa projects an eight-year contract worth $250 million, ensuring Bichette returns to Toronto.
This offseason could reshape Bo Bichette’s future significantly, signaling a potentially fresh role along with a major contract extension with the Blue Jays.
