Power was restored to nearly 600 customers in the Moss Park area of Toronto, following an outage that began at 8:11 a.m. on Wednesday.
Toronto Hydro reported the restoration occurred around 1 p.m. on Thursday, more than a full day after the blackout was first reported.
The utility identified the outage as the result of an underground cable fault, suspected to have been caused by a third-party digging at an active construction site nearby.
“This work is unrelated to Toronto Hydro but appears to have damaged our infrastructure.”
Repairing the damage was described as a “complex and time-consuming” process due to the fault's underground location, requiring careful identification, repair, and testing before restoring power.
“The damage caused by the third-party contractor is extensive, with the dig-ins occurring in multiple spots.”
Toronto Hydro continues to work on underground repairs while monitoring the situation closely.
Author's summary: A power outage impacting nearly 600 customers in Toronto’s Moss Park was fixed after more than 24 hours, caused by third-party construction damage to underground cables.
