Multiple contestants at the Miss Universe pageant walked out of a pre-event ceremony following a public confrontation. The incident involved Miss Universe Thailand director Nawat Itsaragrisil and Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch.
During a livestreamed event on November 3, Nawat Itsaragrisil called out Miss Mexico, accusing her of not fulfilling her duty to promote the Miss Universe organization.
“Mexico, where are you? I heard you [did] not agree to post everything about Thailand, about every article of our own activities. Is it true?”
Fátima Bosch acknowledged she had misunderstood her obligations. This prompted Itsaragrisil to insult her by saying,
“If you follow the orders from your national director, you are a dumb head.”
He further berated Bosch for standing up and speaking, leading her to assert her right to be heard and respected.
“I have a voice. I am not being respected as a woman.”
The confrontation caused several Miss Universe contestants to leave the ceremony in protest.
