Conservative students at the University of California, Berkeley, are proceeding with a Turning Point USA event originally scheduled to feature founder Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated earlier this year.
The event will now include comedian and filmmaker Rob Schneider and Christian author Frank Turek, appearing in place of Kirk. It marks a significant effort by students at one of the nation’s most liberal campuses to continue the late activist’s work.
“The day of our first meeting where we were going to announce that Charlie was coming to campus was the day that he was assassinated,” said John Paul Leon, a junior at UC Berkeley and president of the university’s Turning Point USA chapter.
Leon told Fox News Digital that since Kirk’s death, he has worked with both the university and the national TPUSA organization to ensure the event could still happen.
The event is set for November 10, exactly two months after Kirk was killed on September 10 at Utah Valley University during his “American Comeback Tour.” It will be part of TPUSA’s continued “This Is the Turning Point” tour.
“Internally, we’re spending lots of time to ensure that security is really tight and really secure and having our own meetings just completely dedicated to security themselves,” Leon explained.
While specifics of the security plan remain undisclosed, the organizers confirmed strict safety protocols, including a no-bag policy for attendees and heightened on-site protection for speakers.
Since Kirk’s assassination, the atmosphere on campus has been described as somber. Despite the tragedy, the TPUSA chapter members are determined to move forward and honor Kirk’s memory through continued engagement and events.
“Students are pushing forward to honor Kirk’s legacy,” Leon said.
