Urgent recall of 3 tomato sauces that could trigger 'fatal' food poisoning

Urgent Recall of Three Tomato Sauces Linked to Potentially Fatal Food Poisoning

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an urgent recall of three tomato sauces produced by First and Last Bakery, LLC, due to the risk of contamination with Clostridium botulinum, the bacterium that causes botulism, a potentially fatal food poisoning.

Reason for Recall

The FDA determined the sauces were manufactured without an approved schedule or otherwise evaluated to determine if the process is adequate. This manufacturing issue raises the risk of botulinum toxin formation in the sauces.

Products Affected

Distribution Details

The recalled 26 FL OZ jars were sold in Connecticut and Massachusetts, specifically at Big Y and Stop & Shop stores, starting from September 22, 2025. The use-by dates for these products extend through September 2026.

Consumer Advisory

Customers have been urged not to use the sauces and to return them for a full refund.

The FDA has suspended the production and sale of these sauces to ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements.
