First Alert Weather: Cool and mainly dry today, and tracking our first chance for snow next week

First Alert Weather Update

We are back to Green on the Threat Tracker as winds have lessened, with only some passing lake rain showers this morning. Rain chances should end by the afternoon, leading to partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 40s. Winds remain calm, with gusts around 20 MPH.

Upcoming Wind and Rain

Winds will strengthen tomorrow ahead of another front, bringing gusts up to 30 MPH and rain during the afternoon and evening. Saturday will be cool and cloudy with lighter winds.

Snow Chance Approaches

On Sunday, a low-pressure system will move through, delivering rain locally and snow across the lake. Sunday night, cold air will wrap around this system, creating our first chance for snow, especially in higher elevations.

Cold Air and Lake Effect Snow

Monday will see a surge of cold Canadian air pushing deep into the U.S., likely producing some lake-effect snow as winds shift from the north. Tuesday offers a better chance for lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario with northwest winds. Significant accumulations aren't expected yet, but timing and amounts will become clearer soon.

Later Week Forecast

A clipper system will pass through Wednesday, bringing rain and breezy conditions. Both Monday and Tuesday will remain cold, with temperatures staying in the 30s.

“Make sure to tune back in for updates on that.”

Stay prepared for cooling temperatures and the potential for early-season snow in some areas.

Summary: A calm day with clearing skies precedes a cooling trend and the region’s first chance of snow next week, as cold air from Canada moves in and brings lake-effect snow.
