University Where Charlie Kirk Was Assassinated Ramps Up Police Force

Utah Valley University Increases Security After Charlie Kirk Assassination

Utah Valley University (UVU) is enhancing its security measures after Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated on campus on September 10.

New Security Measures

A UVU spokesperson informed the Daily Caller News Foundation that the university will hire eight new police officers and two security managers to strengthen oversight and support for campus events.

Criticism and Police Concerns

The university faced heavy criticism for its security shortcomings following Kirk’s fatal shooting. Campus police had previously expressed concerns about being understaffed considering UVU's student population of 46,000. On the day of the incident, only six officers were on duty.

University Statement on Police Role

"University police officers play a vital role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment by enforcing local, state, and federal laws while upholding the university’s values of respect, integrity, and inclusion," said Ellen Treanor, UVU’s associate vice president of strategic communications. "Officers protect students, employees, visitors, and property, and take a proactive approach to crime prevention, education, and community engagement."

Summary

Utah Valley University is responding to a tragic campus shooting by significantly expanding its police force to improve safety and prevent future incidents.
