Although fan-favorite shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and One Tree Hill are rumoured for reboots, the upcoming One Tree Hill revival faces uncertainty without its two lead actors. The original drama aired from 2003 to 2012 across nine seasons, with significant changes in its final two.
Both series share reboot buzz and controversial creators. Buffy was created by Joss Whedon, who faced accusations of workplace harassment. Similarly, One Tree Hill's creator, Mark Schwahn, was accused of sexual harassment, allegations supported by cast and crew, including lead actresses Hilarie Burton Morgan and Danneel Harris Ackles.
In summer 2024, information about the One Tree Hill reboot emerged, though details remain sparse. In an interview with People magazine for the Sexiest Man Alive feature, Chad Michael Murray and James Lafferty, who played brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott, expressed doubts about returning.
"We did the show and played those characters for nine years," Lafferty said. "I’m not sure what the rest of that distance would be."
The actors, once on-screen rivals turned close friends, find it hard to imagine the show continuing in today’s context.
The potential reboot of One Tree Hill faces uncertainty as its lead stars signal hesitation about reprising their roles amidst a complex legacy involving the series' creator.
