Code-Hopping Star Returns for Wallabies' Italy Test

Carter Gordon will play for Australia for the first time since the 2023 Rugby World Cup after his selection by coach Joe Schmidt in the Wallabies’ starting lineup against Italy.

Gordon, a former rugby league player, is set to play fly-half in Udine during Australia’s third Test match on their Autumn tour. He missed previous matches, including a narrow win over Japan and the 25-7 loss to England, due to injury.

“The group have rolled up their sleeves and had a solid week of preparation after dusting themselves off from what was a frustrating performance last weekend,” said Schmidt.
“We know we’ll need to be better on Saturday against the Azzurri. They’ll be well prepared and confident after their highly competitive showing in the Six Nations earlier this year.”

Gordon was brought back urgently to inject creativity into a team lacking playmakers. He joined the tour after being released by NRL’s Gold Coast Titans and moving to Super Rugby’s Queensland Reds.

Author’s summary: Carter Gordon’s return as fly-half boosts the Wallabies’ lineup as they prepare for a crucial match against Italy, emphasizing the squad’s focus on improved creativity and performance.
