The National Assembly has proposed to shift the presidential and governorship polls from February or March to November 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Naija News, this proposal is part of the draft amendments to the 2022 Electoral Act, which currently states that these elections must be held no later than 185 days before the incumbent's term expires on May 29.
The proposal was discussed at a one-day public hearing organized by the Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committee on Electoral Matters.
The proposal aims to change the election dates as stipulated in the 2022 Electoral Act.
