Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning has implemented a moratorium on issuing permits and rezoning requests for vape shops.
The decision aims to provide staff with time to review and revise regulations to improve standards for smoke shops in the area.
Jeff Ruggieri, executive director of Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning, explained the need for the pause, citing concerns over the number of vape shops in the county, estimated to be between 50 and 70.
Ruggieri said other municipalities have put moratoriums on vape shops, and without specific regulations, Macon-Bibb could become a hub for vape shops.
