The German government has chosen the Raytheon SPY-6 radar for its new F127 frigates, making it the first international customer for this American radar family.
Raytheon, part of RTX, will provide integration support and technical services to adapt the radar to the F127 design. The system will be installed on eight ships, enhancing the German Navy's air and missile defense capabilities.
The SPY-6 radar is part of the U.S. Navy's fleet sensor capability and is being fitted on seven ship classes. According to Raytheon, it represents a significant improvement in naval defense.
“Germany’s selection of SPY-6 reaffirms the global confidence in the radar’s advanced capabilities and its critical role in enhancing naval defence,”said Barbara Borgonovi, President of Naval Power at Raytheon.
The deal underscores Germany's commitment to upgrading its naval capabilities with cutting-edge technology.
