Anduril unveils new Ghost Shark factory in Sydney, Australia

Anduril Opens New Ghost Shark Factory in Sydney

Anduril Industries, a US-based defense technology company, has launched a new manufacturing facility in Sydney, Australia. This 7,400 sqm site is dedicated to producing the Ghost Shark, an extra-large autonomous underwater vehicle (XL-AUV), and will create over 150 skilled jobs locally.

Contract and Production Details

The factory opening follows the Royal Australian Navy’s $1.12 billion (A$1.7 billion) contract for a substantial fleet of Ghost Sharks, which will be delivered over the next five years. Production has already started with low-rate initial manufacturing, aiming to reach full-scale output in 2026.

Advanced Manufacturing and Testing

The facility combines advanced robotic manufacturing, AI-driven logistics, and features a custom test tank for in-water checks of buoyancy, electrical systems, and safety prior to sea trials.

Supply Chain and Export Plans

The program relies on a supply chain of over 40 Australian SMEs providing a variety of components and materials. The site will also develop the Dive-XL, a commercial baseline variant intended for export to allies and partners worldwide, pending Australian government approval.

“Don’t let policy changes catch you off guard.”

Author’s summary: Anduril’s new Sydney factory bolsters local jobs and advanced production of autonomous underwater vehicles, supporting Australia’s naval fleet and future export opportunities.
