Franklin & Marshall College cancelled all classes on Monday following a widespread power outage caused by a transformer failure over the weekend.
A transformer malfunction on Harrisburg Pike early Saturday morning led to scattered outages across the campus and nearby neighborhoods, according to a college spokesperson.
Peter Durantine, Franklin & Marshall’s director of media relations, explained that repair teams initially planned to restore power by Sunday evening.
“We apologize for the continued disruption and the inconvenience this has caused,” Durantine said in a Sunday evening statement. “Please know that our teams are working around the clock, along with PPL Electric, to complete repairs and restore normal operations as soon as possible.”
The restoration process took longer than expected, forcing the cancellation of Monday’s classes and campus events. Efforts to restore power are expected to continue into Monday.
Franklin & Marshall requested faculty and staff not to come to campus on Monday and to work remotely whenever possible.
