The McDonald's branch on Newmarket Road, Cambridge, has applied to extend its opening hours despite two previous refusals. Currently, the restaurant operates from 7am until 11pm every day, but the proposal would allow it to open an hour earlier at 6am, maintaining closing at 11pm seven days a week.
Represented by Savills, McDonald's claims the extra hour in the morning will not adversely affect nearby residents. The application notes that various businesses in the area operate during differing hours, highlighting that Papa John's, for example, is open until 3am every day.
"This application simply seeks to extend the trading hours by an additional hour from that which is currently approved. We therefore anticipate that the proposal is entirely acceptable in terms of the extra hour of operation in the early morning trading period as no complaints have been received."
According to Savills, the early morning period accounts for the majority of McDonald's customers. The extension is expected to bring several economic benefits by accommodating this demand.
McDonald's Cambridge branch aims to start opening earlier by one hour, citing customer demand and no expected disruption to local residents.
