Brisbane Roar striker Justin Vidic rejects the idea that he has something to prove to his old club Newcastle Jets, but insists he will demonstrate his “quality” when they meet on Sunday.
Vidic, who scored only once in 13 A-League appearances for Newcastle, 12 of which were as a substitute, was not offered a new contract after Mark Milligan replaced Robbie Stanton as Jets coach. At 21 years old, his professional future was uncertain until he trialed with Brisbane Roar and earned a two-year contract.
His hard-working and traditional style fits well with coach Michael Valkanis’s emphasis on straightforward and physical tactics at Queensland’s club.
“These things happen for a reason. I’m sure I’ll show my quality. I don’t think I have anything to prove to them. They know what I’m capable of, and there are lots of people at the club that I still speak to and that I’m still close to.”
“They know my potential and I want to show them that on Sunday.”
Vidic has started two of Brisbane’s three matches this season and scored his first goal for the club in a 2-1 loss to Wellington last month.
“Starting in our past two games has been good for me.”
Summary: Justin Vidic aims to prove his value through consistent hard work and solid performances after moving from Newcastle Jets to Brisbane Roar.
