A three-alarm fire broke out late Friday night, damaging an apartment complex at Olympia Place and continuing into Saturday. The blaze began around 8:19 p.m., initially reported as a fire in a four-story building under construction next to Olympia Place.

The fire quickly spread to nearby buildings in the complex overnight. Multiple explosions occurred, likely caused by fuel tanks at the construction site, and a construction crane collapsed during the incident.

Emergency Response

The Amherst Fire Department reported that an estimated 230 residents were displaced. Firefighters from multiple counties in Hampshire, Hampden, and Franklin responded to mutual aid requests. Tanker trucks from several communities were brought in to support water supply efforts.
