Joseph Morales made a triumphant return to the UFC, securing a first-round submission victory over Matt Schnell in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 111. The win marked a strong comeback after his previous stint in the promotion.
Schnell took the fight to the ground early, but Morales swiftly reversed position and gained side control. Applying constant pressure, Morales threatened with a kimura before transitioning into a crucifix position. From there, he locked in a guillotine choke that forced Schnell to submit in the first round.
During his first UFC run between 2017 and 2018, Morales went 1–2, including a defeat against future flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo. He had earned his way back into the promotion by winning season 33 of The Ultimate Fighter, defeating Eduardo Henrique, Imanol Rodriguez, and Alibi Idiris.
“His career revitalization has been beautiful,” one fan said, emphasizing Morales’ perseverance and growth since his early UFC setbacks.
Schnell’s recent record remains difficult; he has dropped four of his last five bouts and has not secured a win in five of his past seven appearances.
