The Pitt men’s basketball team rallied with a 14-3 run to end the first half and never lost the lead afterward, beating Youngstown State 74-59 at the Petersen Events Center on Monday night in the 2025-26 season opener.
Youngstown State controlled the early stages, maintaining the lead until the Panthers took their first lead at 20-19, sparked by a three-point play from Cameron Corhen. Although the Penguins responded with a 6-0 run, Pitt intensified their defense and seized control of the game.
In the final 5:34 of the first half, Youngstown State struggled offensively, shooting just 1-of-7 with three turnovers, allowing Pitt to close the half on a 14-3 run and lead 34-28.
Corhen’s three-pointer put Pitt ahead for good at 30-28, and Damarco Minor finished the half strong with two free throws and a contested baseline jumper.
After the break, Pitt expanded their lead to double digits. Despite a six-point run by Youngstown State that cut the gap to 54-50, Pitt maintained control and secured the win.
