Bryant Brown, a former Boundary County jail employee, faces a charge of aggravated battery for allegedly assaulting an inmate in January 2023. Charges were filed only in September of the same year.
The incident involved an inmate who was intoxicated, verbally abusive, and uncooperative toward jail staff after being arrested on a misdemeanor warrant by Bonners Ferry Police.
According to a probable cause affidavit by Sheriff's Detective Brandon Blackmore, after a heated verbal exchange, Brown shoved the man against a glass window inside the holding cell and punched him, causing his head to hit a brick wall.
The inmate attempted to block the blows by grabbing Brown’s arms but did not otherwise resist. The affidavit further states:
Brown then grabbed the inmate’s throat with both hands and slammed his head into the brick wall.
The Herald does not disclose the names of victims in criminal cases.
