Charlotte’s star LaMelo Ball missed his third consecutive game due to a right ankle impingement, sitting out alongside Collin Sexton, who was sidelined with a neck strain during the Hornets' matchup against the Miami Heat in East Group C at Kasaya Center on Friday night.
Before the game, Miles Bridges highlighted the challenge of defending Miami, recalling their previous high-scoring contest in South Florida less than two weeks prior.
“Defense first,” Bridges said. “A defensive mindset, They scored, what, 130 on us, 120? So, we’ve got to go out there and try to be better.”
In reality, Miami scored 144 points in that earlier game, making Charlotte's task even tougher given Ball's absence.
Ball had undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle and a separate procedure on his right wrist in April. Although the surgery addressed the impingement, the injury continues to keep him off the court.
“Yeah, he’s got that ankle impingement and it’s been good to see he’s been able to get a little bit of work on the court,” said coach Charles Lee.
The Hornets faced the Heat in a critical Emirates NBA Cup East Group C contest at Kasaya Center, marking their second encounter in just 11 days.
With Ball sidelined, Charlotte must rely on a stronger defensive effort to contain Miami’s potent offense.
Author's summary: LaMelo Ball’s ongoing ankle injury sidelines him during critical Hornets matches, raising concerns about the team's defense and overall performance against strong opponents like the Heat.
