On October 30, 2025, Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) negotiators from both postal bargaining units met with Canada Post representatives and federal mediators for the first time since October 3. The meeting aimed to restart negotiations to resolve ongoing disputes.
CUPW announced that further discussions between the parties will continue in the coming days. Meanwhile, CUPW members maintain rotating strikes and postal workers in Quebec persist in withholding the processing and delivery of unaddressed flyers, known as Neighbourhood Mail.
“We all have a part to play in our fight for public services, good jobs and a sustainable public post office. The negotiators thank all members for their continued support,” said Jan Simpson, CUPW National President.
At the same time, Joël Lightbound, Minister of Government Transformation, Public Works and Procurement, responsible for Canada Post, expressed readiness to approve significant job cuts. Experts estimate that changes at the Crown Corporation could result in the loss of up to 10,000 jobs.
This week, the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates received testimony from Minister Lightbound regarding the restructuring efforts.
Summary: Canada Post’s layoffs begin as negotiations with CUPW continue amid rotating strikes and strategic job action, while government officials prepare for major job cuts in postal services.
