Several key organisations in Ellesmere Port are set to benefit from a £150,000 fund provided by Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Dan Price. This funding aims to support community projects that use sport and creative activities to inspire young people and encourage healthier lifestyles while fostering positive community engagement.
More than 40 projects throughout Cheshire will receive backing through the commissioner’s SWAP fund—Safety, Working Together, Action and Prevention. Initially set at £100,000, the fund was increased to £150,000 after almost triple the usual number of applications were received compared to the previous round.
The SWAP fund focuses on grassroots initiatives addressing issues most important to residents, such as reducing anti-social behaviour, enhancing wellbeing, and creating safe environments for youth.
Dan Price, PCC for Cheshire, commented: “Projects like Cheshire Phoenix Basketball and Ellesmere Port Darts Academy show how sport and teamwork can change lives. They give young people purpose, structure and positive role models, helping to build safer, stronger communities. The quality and number of applications this year has been mind blowing.”
Each project in Ellesmere Port may receive up to £5,000 to help drive these positive changes.
Summary: The increased £150,000 SWAP fund empowers local groups in Ellesmere Port and Cheshire to enhance community safety, wellbeing, and youth engagement through sport and creative initiatives.
