Police have issued a warning following reports of young men going door-to-door selling goods under the guise of a "Nottingham Knockers" scam. These individuals claim to be part of probation or rehabilitation programs and often show fake identification to seem credible.
The products sold are typically low quality and cheaply made. Police caution that scammers may use these visits to observe and note potential burglary targets, including whether residents have cash, valuables, or live alone.
The scam has appeared in several regions across the UK and frequently targets elderly or vulnerable people in their homes.
North Wales Police urge residents not to engage with the sellers and provide the following guidance:
A police spokesperson said: “In other areas, they’ve even become violent and forced their way into people’s homes to obtain further cash. This hasn’t been reported in the North Wales area yet, but the men have been aggressive. Again, please understand that these sellers are professional criminals and the best way to stay safe is not engaging with them.”
Residents are encouraged to contact North Wales Police immediately to help authorities respond swiftly and catch those responsible.
Summary: The Nottingham Knockers scam involves fake sellers targeting vulnerable residents to sell poor-quality goods and possibly scout for burglary victims; authorities advise reporting and avoiding contact.
