Lake City will have a new mayor following the recent election. Cheryl Sellers-Seger won the mayoral race, defeating incumbent Craig Ardis and challengers Natalie Davis and James Verlotti. Unofficial results showed Sellers-Seger with 158 votes, Ardis with 150, Verlotti with 12, and Davis with 7.
Sellers-Seger is a graduate of Lake City High School and a retired teacher from Lansing Public Schools. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and a Master’s degree in Education with Montessori Certification from St.
She decided to run for mayor because she was concerned that the town was losing its "uniqueness" and wanted to help maintain its small-town charm.
As mayor, Sellers-Seger expressed enthusiasm about representing the residents of Lake City and being their voice.
“I am thankful for all the people that were supporting and stood by me and helped me with the campaign. I had a lot of prayer being pushed up, so I think this is God’s plan for my life, and I’m really excited about it.”
This election was Sellers-Seger’s first time running for public office. She enjoyed the opportunity to meet residents face-to-face during her campaign, which reminded her why Lake City is special.
“The lake draws people here, but it’s the people that make you want to live here. I think talking to all the people made me realize that’s why I love this town. It’s the people.”
Cheryl Sellers-Seger’s election reflects her strong community ties and passion for preserving Lake City’s unique small-town character.
