A new Post Office and convenience store have officially opened, transforming a former derelict MOT station into a vibrant community space that provides essential local services.
The opening follows a consultation launched earlier this year, after the previous postmaster resigned and the Post Office announced its move to a new site on Halliwell Road. The redevelopment involved demolishing the old MOT station and building a fresh facility from the ground up.
The project was led by postmaster Max Matadar and his daughter Ameera, who oversaw the construction and setup of the new premises. The site now hosts not only the Post Office and store but will soon include a launderette and estate agency as well.
“This was an ugly, derelict site, and people have been really pleased with what we have done. They think the location for the Post Office is fantastic and they really like the look of the brand-new building and all it has to offer.”
— Max Matadar, Postmaster
The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at 263 Halliwell Road, led by Mayor of Bolton, Councillor David Chadwick, accompanied by Councillors Rabiya Jiva and Safwaan Patel. The new facility is now fully operational, with additional services expected to open soon.
